It's the first Wednesday in the month again – how fast
the year is flying by. So, it's Books
You Loved time.
Books
You Loved: April had over 60 books linked in. Some reviews that caught my eye were:
We
Are Water by Wally Lamb was brought over by Marianne
of Let's Read. She said 'A family, mother, father, three
children, all mostly successful in their jobs, looks nice from the outside. But
Wally Lamb shows us the inside. Intriguing.'
Debbie from Different Time, Different Place Book
Reviews brought us Rejection
Proof: How I Beat Fear and Became Invincible Through 100 Days of Rejection by
Jia Jang Debbie's Amazon review said 'I'd highly recommend this book to
anyone who wishes they were bolder but are held back by fear.'
The
Reluctant Midwife by Patrician Harman was added to the
collection by Elizabeth of Silver's Reviews.
She said 'THE
RELUCTANT MIDWIFE is one of those books you won't want to put down because the
characters are so wholesome and because the story is so homey and
heartwarming. Patience and Becky are characters you would want for a
friend.'
All
the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr was
reviewed by Dorothy of The Nature of Things.
Dorothy said 'All
the Light We Cannot See is a lyrically written, hauntingly beautiful book
about two young people, a German boy and a French girl, trapped in the
maelstrom of war.'
Now for the new collection. Remember the post doesn't have to be a recent
one and the book doesn't have to have been recently published or read. The only
requirement is that it is about a book that you loved.
To add to the list just pop the name of the book (and
your name/blog name if you like) into the first Mr Linky box and then copy and
paste the url of your post about it into the second box.
I'll be pinning your links to this
Pinboard to make it easier for you to check them out at a glance.
Have fun. I hope
you discover some great books to read – I always do!
Thanks for the mention of my entry from last month in your comments, Carole. This month, I'm linking to two books which I found exceptional. The first is The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen, a remarkable work of fiction regarding the end of the Vietnam War and its aftermath, told from a Vietnamese perspective. Not an easy read, but then it wasn't an easy time. It is very well written. My second entry is The Silence of the Grave by Arnuldur Indriason, an Icelandic author in the tradition of Scandinavian mysteries/thrillers. He has a unique way of telling a story. Cheers!

ReplyDeleteCarole,
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting this terrific meme! I 've just finished a book that I really loved. I've added it to your linky.
All The Light We cannot see is fantastic book! The best book about WWII that I've every read. I added a book and linked to my review on Goodreads. Not sure if that's going to work or not. Please let me know if it doesn't. Thanks Carole!
ReplyDeleteI haven't joined in for a while, but I did read a book I really enjoyed (and now own my very own copy of :)

ReplyDeleteIt was nice to read a quiet sort of a recent novel after such a long time.
ReplyDeleteI have linked up my 3 favourite books from the month - a photography book, sexy love story, and a story of survival. Such variety in the month of April! x

My Blog
Thanks again for the link up, Carole. just added Adam Bede by George Eliot which i enjoyed very much.
ReplyDeleteI have not been doing too well with my updating this month, just managed to write my own blog.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, thank you for including my favourite book from the month before, the latest novel by Wally Lamb, "We Are Water". It is indeed a brilliant new novel for anyone who loved his former books.
But it's not too late, I hope to add my two favourite books I read last month, "Fall of Giants" by Ken Follett and "Some Luck" by Jane Smiley, both wonderful beginnings of a trilogy.
Thank you so much for this post, I always enjoy reading what others loved.
Have a good weekend,
Marianne from
Let's Read
Hello again, Carole,
ReplyDeleteSo once again, I'm posting my Book of the Month For May, several days into June - June 3rd, to be precise. ;) Anyway, since my choice was actually a reread for me, I've posted two links. The first one is my actual review from when I read this book for the first time, and then I have my 'Review Revisited' link posted as well. I'll see you later on this month, Carole! ;)
