The Morning Hour by Moritz Ludwig von Schwind

This relatively unknown artist was an Austrian.  Most of his work apparently consists of paintings dealing with fairy tales and mediaeval history – not so appealing to me as this quiet and fascinating painting.

This painting dates from 1858 and was painted for the artist himself rather than with any intention of selling or showing the painting to the public.

It is a lovely representation of the quiet early morning hours when you greet the day after rising from your bed.

The original of this painting is in a gallery in Munich.

  2. I hadn't heard about this artist before but I certainly like the painting. It looks so intimate.
