The Grand Canyon

This is another travel post inspired by finding a book about the Grand Canyon while clearing out my house.

I only had a flying visit there – and this was before the big horseshoe plinth was built out over it.  I would like to go back but I don't think I would be brave enough to go out on that plinth!

The Grand Canyon National Park was established in 1919.  Very forward thinking.  Grand Canyon is 277 miles long and averages 10 miles wide.  The Colorado River runs through the canyon.

This is Mather Point on the South Rim – the first view many visitors have of the canyon.

This is Angel's Window on the north Rim's Cape Royal Road.  The weather will gradually break this down further and the window may be lost.

Look at the pretty layering of sandstone in Deer Creek Gorge.

Have you been there?  What did you like about it the most?

  1. Never been there though I would love to go. Great pics, Carole.
I think I would freak out by standing on top of the glass platform; just thinking about it give the creeps.
