A View Down A Corridor by Samuel Van Hoogstraten

The title of this painting might be a bit prosaic but I find the painting quite fascinating right from the dog and the mop to the intriguing view further down the corridor.

This painting was done in 1662 – over 400 years ago.  The original can be found in Gloucestershire in the UK – although the artist was a Dutchman.  He did paint it in England though.  The house belonged to Samuel Pepys (the famous diarist).

  1. A rather extraordinary portrayal of animal companions and a quiet conversation in a remote era - thanks for posting!
