A Woman Who Shaped History – Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria is, of course, legendary.  She reigned as Queen of what was then the British Empire for a staggering 64 years from the age of 18.

On top of being Queen she had nine children.  By the time of her death she was related to the rulers of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Greece and Russia.  She became known as the Grandmother of Europe.

Queen Victoria spoke English, German, French and Hindustani.  Wow!

Victoria had a happy marriage to her cousin,  Prince Albert but was widowed after 21 years and spent the rest of her long life in mourning.

She instituted the Victoria Cross as Britain's highest military award for bravery.
