The Hűlsenbeck Children by Philipp Otto Runge

If you hadn't heard of Philipp Otto Runge before, join the club!  But when I came across this painting in a book I knew I wanted to share it with you.

The original painting can be seen in the Art Gallery in Hamburg in Germany.  It was painted in about 1806.

This lovely portrait of a trader's children was unusual for its time because the children were not painted as mini adults but at life size and putting the viewer on the same level as the children.

You can see the family resemblance between the children but I must say the hair on the right hand boy looks a bit odd to me.
