I have
posted about making jam before – Plum
Plus, Frozen
Apricot, Lower
Sugar Apricot, Making Jam,
Jam
Funnel – so I won't go into any detail about jam making techniques in this
post.
I bought 4
punnets of strawberries to make this jam.
I cut them up into quarters (they were big ones) and added the
sugar. I also added a little vanilla,
plum brandy (bought in Sarlat on our trip to France) and lemon juice when they
were boiling. The only thing you have to
do differently with strawberry jam is to let it sit in the pot off the heat for
about 20 minutes before putting it in jars.
If you don't all the strawberry pieces will float to the top rather than
being evenly distributed.
As you can
see the photo is not particularly jazzed up, and I didn't do labels or pretty
covers for the jars – I guess you could call this 'keeping it real'. The jam was delicious – although a teeny bit
on the runny side which I don't mind.
Yum! I really must try this. I love strawberry jam and this sounds easy enough that maybe even I could do it!
