Portrait of an Old Woman by Hans Memling

A quick post about a painting that caught my eye.    Despite this painting's title I don't think this woman looks all that old!

This painting is no spring chicken either – it was done in the 1460's.  Unlike most other portraits of the time the subject is not looking right at you.  I think the sitter's eyes have seen a lot.  And the way the headdress is drawn is just fab.

To see the original you would have to go to the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston Texas.
