Ribs Experiment

Carole's Chatter: Ribs Experiment

I know that I've wittered on about ribs before – Easy Pork Spare Ribs, Spare Ribs, Sichuan Ribs, Apricot Cola Ribs

But I wanted to tell you about my latest Ribs Experiment.  I had some cans of cola left over – we don't drink it – so wanted to use it up in cooking.

I put the ribs into an oven dish and covered them with a mixture of half and half cola and water.

I cooked them on a low temperature in the oven for 4 hours.  Towards the end of that time I made a sticky sauce.

The sauce was a mix of tomato sauce (ketchup), palm sugar (brown sugar would work), soy sauce, sweet soy sauce (kecap manis), Worcestershire sauce, chilli plum chutney, paprika and chilli flakes.  I could have added a little lemon juice or vinegar but didn't.

Take your ribs out and ramp up the oven to high.  Put the ribs onto a plate and discard the cooking liquid then put them back and cover them with the sticky sauce and put them back in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.

  2. That sounds amazing. I've had ham cooked in cola and it's delicious so I imagine ribs would be even better. Thanks for sharing!

  3. We love ribs -- thanks for the great idea for using up cola (which we don't drink either)
