Sara Donati

If you like Diana Gabaldon, I think it's odds on that you will like Sara Donati's books.  No, they don't have the wonderful Jamie Fraser, but they are great reads despite that!

She has done a series called the Wilderness Series:

In some of the books, characters from the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon pop up – which is fun.

Although the series is finished she is writing another novel set in the late 1800's in Manhattan.  I'm looking forward to it.

Her real name is Rosina Lippi-Green.  She has a PHD in linguistics and has written various technical texts.  Fortunately her fiction is not difficult to read.
