Last
month's collection had lots of interesting books. Here are a few reviews that caught my eye:
Moonshine and Rosefire reviewed
Anna Quindlen - Every Last One: A Novel
– 'the
plot was enthralling - capturing my attention from page one with likeable
characters and heart-stopping drama. The story was also incredibly poignant for
me. In my opinion, Anna Quindlen is a terrific author, and I'm looking forward
to reading more from this author in the future.'
Stella
Bain by Anita Shreve was reviewed by Historical Novel Review – 'Anita Shreve excels at drilling down deep into the human spirit,
of unleashing great emotion, and all while telling a riveting story. This is
very much a character driven novel, but it also has a touching mystery at its
roots that definitely keeps the reader turning the pages. I highly recommend
this novel for anyone wishing to cozy up to a deep, insightful story of
ultimate triumph.'
Books and Quilts reviewed The
Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion – 'This is a wonderful presentation of two very different people developing
a relationship and how they accommodate each other's uniqueness.
I also want to congratulate Mr. Simsion for his use of humour. This book was funny and had my laughing out loud at parts and credit to the author, that it was always the situations I was laughing and never at the person involved'

Sense
and Sensibility by Joanna Trollope
reviewed by Doing Dewey – 'despite
the integration of modern terms and even some pop culture, the writing reminds
me very much of Austen'
Chick Lit Central: The Blog! reviewed The
Irresistible Blueberry Bakeshop & Café – 'a
fantastic story from beginning to end!'

At times raw, always revealing, Christa Parrish’s characters in Stones for Bread are earthy and occasionally painfully human; deeply original yet universally relate-able.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite last month Maya's Notebook by Isabel Allende. I love her books and this one was as gripping as her other novels.
ReplyDeleteMarianne from Let's Read
Jinx is a book about magic, odd creatures, trees that talk to him and more. It's a great winter read!
ReplyDeleteDone, and thanks for quoting my last review. :)
ReplyDeleteI was really surprised by WINDOW BY MICHELE RENAE, in a paranormal genre: BECOMING ALPHA BY AILEEN ERIN and in a strange thrilling one: FINE YOUNG GENTLEMEN BY C.W SLATER.
ReplyDeleteAnd Carole...it's freezing in Paris so feel free to send me some sun!
Code Name Verity is a beautiful historical fiction and one of my favourite books; Fearsome Dreamer is an imaginative story set in an alternative world. I'd recommend them both!
ReplyDeleteI hope I didn't link this one before!
ReplyDeleteI don't post about books but "The 5 people you meet in heaven has stayed with me this year.
ReplyDeleteThe Rosie Project has been on my radar for several months now but I have yet to read it. Everyone I've spoken with and the reviews I've read have been nothing but positive and everyone comments on the humour.
ReplyDeleteI love this post, lost of great books! Have a great week. :-)
ReplyDeleteCarole, thank you for hosting this! I will try to visit a few of the posts. Also, thank you for featuring my blog in your side bar. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks as always, Carole, for this meme. I included two books from last month's reviews.
ReplyDeleteRegards.
Oh I forgot to add my post name! I'm number 31, it's Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. Good fictionalization of an actual happening.
ReplyDeleteOops I forgot to post the book name - I'm #31 above and the book is Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. A good fictionalization of a true event.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby like this book too! Said it was very good.
DeleteTHANKS, Carol.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
Thanks for featuring Every Last One: A Novel by Anna Quindlen, Carol! :) I'll be coming back later in the months to post December's and January's links - see you later!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting as always!
ReplyDeleteMy pick, Ice, is a disturbing work of dystopian slipstream, I thought it might be a good contrast to the Christmas cheer for those who need a brief break from festivity.
Having said that - I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year!
Oops! I goofed. I linked to two books that I enjoyed recently - The Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon by Alexander McCall Smith and The Black Ice by Michael Connelly - but I left the names of the books off my links, #39 and #40 respectively. I don't know if you can fix that for me. Anyway, happy reading to all!
ReplyDeleteWe both liked THE GOOD SISTER by Wendy Staub and CHAMPION by Marie Lu.
ReplyDeleteI'm late! What a crazy list ... :) Thanks for continuing this linky, and the special mention in your sidebar! Happy Holiday, Carole! :)
ReplyDeleteI've added a link to my post listing my favorite books of 2013. Some of them have been linked to previous "Books You Loved" posts. Happy holidays to all and a happy and healthy New Year!
