Peter Blake – Not Just a Yachtsman but a good bloke

Sir Peter Blake, one of New Zealand's most loved citizens, was born on 1 October 1948.  Had he not been sadly killed by pirates in South America in 2001, he would have been 65 years old.

Peter was a fantastic yachtsman.  He led Team New Zealand to successive victories in the America's Cup, set the world record for fastest time sailing round the world and won numerous other major races.

Through it all Peter remained the quintessential Kiwi – right down to his lucky red socks.  Gone too soon.
