Food on Friday: Cherries and Almonds

ON

I feel there should be a song about these besties – cherries and almonds – a great flavour combo.  Your dish doesn't need to have both in it but if it does – great!

Cherries go well with:

Almonds
Beetroots
Brandy
Butter
Chocolate
Cinnamon
Citrus juice
Cloves
Cream cheese
Duck
Goat's cheese
Ham
Pastry
Port
Rose wine
Sago
Sour cream
Squab pigeons
Thick cream
Tongue
Vanilla ice cream
White wine
Yoghurt

I would add tuna to this Stephanie Alexander list.

Almonds go well with:

Apricots
Berries
Cherries
Chicken
Chocolate
Cream
Dried fruit
Honey
Peaches
Quinces
Rice
Trout
Vanilla

To build this collection of cherry and almond goodness, just put your name and the name of the dish into the first Mr Linky box and paste the url for your post about the dish into the second.

I hope you take time to check out some of the other links.  To help you choose which ones, I have created this Pinboard to which I'll be pinning the links as fast as I can.

Happy linking!

  1. Hi, Carole,
My Ma's recipe for Kannoli tar-Rikotta uses roasted almonds and glace cherries - a twofer! The filling would also be nice in cream puffs.

  12. Carole,
I'm fortunate to be the recipient of a giant bag of dried Michigan cherries from Traverse City, Michigan. Since I was kinda overwhelmed with all those dried cherries, I've been stuffing them into everything from muffins to cookies to . . . well . . . stuffing. And a pizza, of course, as we love our Friday Night Pizza Nights around here.

    Thanks for hosting!

  38. I posted Door County Cherry Dessert, which calls for pecans or walnuts, but almonds would be perfect. When I make a cherry dessert, I generally prefer almonds. You are so right, Carole, they go together so well.

This is an easy dessert, more or less a "dump" cake.
