Captain William Hobson, the first Governor of
New Zealand died on 10 September 1842 as a result of a stroke (only 2 years
after the Treaty of Waitangi). He first
visited New Zealand in 1837 as a Captain in the Royal Navy – and when he
returned to Britain he recommended that Britain take sovereignty over New
Zealand. And so it all started! How different things might have been.
Captain
Hobson is buried in Auckland.
