Simple cooking tip – preparing asparagus for cooking

Hi, experienced cooks out there will all have their own ideas on this.  My way of preparing asparagus, which I think came off a Jamie Oliver programme, is to snap the ends off – above where it snaps will be nice and tender and you get rid of the woody bits.  You just bend the stalk and let it snap wherever it wants to.

Alternatively you could peel the bottom part of the asparagus (and cut it off and cook it for a bit longer than the rest of the stalk).

  3. My friend taught me this trick too! Just snap because below where it snaps is too woody for eating

  4. Asparagus is my favorite. I bought a roast and was about to buy the asparagus, when I noticed it was 3 times the price of the roast!?! (Back to canned asparagus.)
