Hey Jude was written by Paul McCartney in honour of
John Lennon’s son Julian. It was a
recognition of the impact on him of John taking up with Yoko Ono. There are some who say it was also about his
emergent relationship with Linda Eastman.
It was released in 1968. It was
over 7 minutes long – the only other track at that sort of length around that
time was MacArthur
Park .
